Vitreoretinal Consultation

A complete vitreoretinal examination usually takes two to four hours. Specific problems may require more time. Special testing such as Fluorescein Angiography, Fundus Photography, Ocular Coherent Tomography or Ultrasonography may add to the length of your appointment.

We recognize and understand the value of your time and will make every effort to honor your appointment time. However, unpredictable surgical and medical emergencies do occur that may cause unforeseen delays. Please let us know if such a delay interferes with your schedule. In order to examine your eyes, drops are necessary to dilate your pupils. These drops take 20 minutes to work and the effect may last for hours. As your pupils dilate, it will become more difficult to focus on reading material and your eyes will be sensitive to light. You may want to bring sunglasses. Some patients prefer to have a friend or family member drive the day of their appointment.

Please bring a list of your current medications to your appointment.
